About the Job
Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio is currently seeking a Parenting Skill Instructor/Family Coach to join our team in Canton, Ohio, to teach parenting skills and appropriate decision-making techniques to individuals who are at risk of or have previously lost custody of their child. The services will be provided in a classroom setting and/or in home, depending upon the need of the family. Consistent guidance, direction and support should be provided to the individual that correlates with their court ordered case plan, program goals, and necessary lifestyle changes to promote a functional family unit.
Our Parenting Skill Instructor and Family Coach will:
- Act as a case manager, assuming primary responsibility for the individual from intake through orientation and goal planning to discharge.
- Independently make and document collateral contacts, referrals/links to other community agencies/community resources as needed.
- Assess risk and evaluate child safety, assuring the basic needs of the child are met through conducting scheduled home visits.
- Compile written documentation regarding an individual's progress including pertinent information (i.e.: attendance, behavioral observations, home conditions, interaction with child and further recommendations).
- Provide required case documentation and personal testimony upon receiving subpoena.
- Attend required clinics, staff or interdepartmental meetings, workshops and in-services when required.
- Maintain positive and on-going communication with referral source to verify individual's progress in the program and application of skill to their real life situations.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, CARF standards and safety and security measures .
- Other duties which reasonably fall within the classification and assigned by supervisor.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience in social services, parent education, early childhood education, child development and/or instruction preferred.
- Ability to work with others in an effective way to gain their trust and confidence, enabling them to share their feelings. Ability to document these program activities via case notes and written reports.
- Attention to detail with the ability to gather and record data quickly and accurately.
- Ability to work with participant/client to set and manage to meaningful program goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with participants, co-workers, referral sources and the general public.
- Knowledge of basic parenting skills required.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to perform computer functions including use of the Internet, Microsoft Word, Outlook Excel and Access.
Our Basic Requirements are:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Child Development or five years' experience working with families and children.
- Certificate in First Aid and CPR required. First Aid and CPR training will be provided by the agency.
- Must have a valid driver's license and automotive insurance. Must regularly provide the agency with proof of valid automotive insurance.
- Travel within communities served.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including but not limited to: inside, sedentary work; constant bilateral reaching at all levels; constant handling/fingering; fine finger for computer operation and writing; frequently stand, sit and walk. Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs; ability to walk up to 60 feet distance; occasionally climb, balance, stoop/bend and crouch/squat.
- General office equipment and phone system.
