Salary Range: $23.70 - $30.82 hourly
Job Summary:
Performs general maintenance, upkeep and cleaning of various park areas and hard surface public plaza’s including trash removal, debris removal, animal waste cleanup etc; performs landscape maintenance including mowing, watering, pruning, weed control, snow removal, and facility/equipment repairs; operates a variety of motorized equipment; operates a variety of hand and power tools. Performs underground utility locates following all “811 DIG” policies and regulations on Park properties and maintained ROW’s. Depending on assigned district, employee may be responsible for upkeep and maintenance of areas surrounding public buildings and grounds. Performs site cleanup, upkeep and maintenance on skateparks and surrounding landscapes.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
- A minimum of three (3) years commercial grounds maintenance experience;
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record;
- Experience with operating underground utility locating equipment and marking such utilities;
- Supervisory experience helpful;
- Knowledge and experience in the use of operating hand and power tools and job-related equipment;
- Knowledge and experience of the upkeep and maintenance of parks;
- Knowledge and experience directing contracted maintenance staff.
Essential Functions:
- Install, repair, and maintain irrigation equipment;
- Install, repair, and maintain various types of playground equipment;
- Install, repair and maintain other parks related equipment including lighting, security cameras, etc.;
- Set up and tear down event specific equipment and facilities;
- Perform maintenance and safety inspections of parks facilities including playgrounds;
- Operate and perform minor maintenance on power equipment used in park maintenance;
- Perform basic repair and maintenance work decorative landscapes;
- Perform basic plumbing and electrical repair and maintenance;
- Maintain brick paver pedestrian walkways;
- Install art pedestals and art work for public art program;
- Work confidently in close proximity to a variety of park patrons;
- Ability to install and maintain holiday lighting displays;
- Operate hand tools, power tools, light trucks, plow vehicles and tractors;
- Perform strenuous labor in all types of weather;
- Follow instructions both verbally and written;
- Work independently as well as with others;
- Safely apply pesticides/fertilizers and chemicals;
- Maintain flower and shrub beds to meet City standards;
- Supervise hourly and/or seasonal employees;
- Ability to be on-call when assigned;
- Follow established safety policies and practices;
- Come to work regularly in compliance with prescribed schedule;
- Adequate computer knowledge to program holiday lighting displays, email, evaluation writing.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions;
- Exposure to various types of machinery noise - some levels are excessive;
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Vision enough to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment and grounds and to operate vehicles and equipment;
- Manual dexterity enough to operate hand tools, mowers, edger’s, blowers, tractors, trenchers, front-end loaders, skid steers and other related equipment and vehicles;
- Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach as to load and unload equipment, supplies or tools;
- Ability to move over rough, uneven and rocky surfaces in performance of grounds maintenance;
- Stamina and strength enough to lift and or move up to 60 lbs. for long distances over a variety of surfaces;
- Ability to climb steps and ladders and work at various heights and in confined spaces;
- Perform strenuous labor in all types of weather.
- Examples of work include: Pulling trash bags (50+ lbs) out of canisters that can be up to 4 ½ ft tall; changing parking blocks (80+ pounds, 6 ft long), attaching utility locate transmitters; lay sod (50+ lbs); repairing / installing irrigations lines requires applying strength in awkward situations (e.g., 5ft deep x 3 ft wide hole, or laying on stomach and reaching into holes to repair irrigation).
