JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of golf courses, buildings and grounds.
Works under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and/or Foreman and Golf Course Manager.
May supervise Worker I's, community service workers or seasonal employees as required and assigned.
Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower level employees or community service workers.
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
Performs seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest control of the golf courses.
Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
Must be able to work with the golfing public in a courteous and responsible manner.
Performs maintenance on entire golf course irrigation system including pumps.
Operates Toro Site Pro irrigation control system.
Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
Maintain and install lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.
Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions.
Assists in the construction of new facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.
Keeps records of work completed.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Mows and maintains golf courses; including removing weeds, maintaining sprinkler systems, repairing and installation of irrigation components such as sprinkler heads, valves, etc.
Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of drinking fountains and rest rooms.
Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
Performs custodial work such as required and assigned, including: change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; dump garbage and reline cans with liners; clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies; sweep; empty ash cans; clean spills; clean drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.; dust furniture; wash windows, walls, metal and woodwork; clean rain gutters, and paint walls as required.
Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.

Ability to use equipment and tools listed properly and safely.
Extensive background checks required.
This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Front-end loader/tractor, backhoe, dump truck, skid loader, Sand Pro Truckster, Topdresser, sprayer, fertilizer hopper, seeder, sod cutter, string trimmers, edgers, electric motors, pumps, aerifier, mowers, fork lift, chain saw, weed trimmers, sprinklers, irrigation systems, miscellaneous hand and power tools for carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; pumps, valves, filtration devices, gauges, etc.; janitorial equipment, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms, and dusting equipment, motor vehicle, telephone, mobile radio, computer, and calculator.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and extreme hot and cold weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
