ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Will provide physical therapy services under the on-site supervision and direction of a Physical Therapist who is licensed in the Commonwealth of PA.
- Will not initiate and/or alter a treatment program without proper evaluation by and with approval from the Physical Therapist (PT).
- Demonstrate and articulate sound clinical reasoning in treatment planning, implementation, & monitoring of resident progress.
- Recognize when standard patient protocols or treatment plans need modification to meet individual resident needs & reports to therapist (PT).
- Understand the role of therapy in the context of resident’s age, total needs perspective & environment.
- Perform age appropriate competency skills with respect to individual resident problems.
- Adjusts a treatment procedure based upon changes in resident status with approval by the PT.
- Documents therapeutic interventions and services delivered according to state and federal regulations.
- Resident care documentation is timely, legible, and efficient.
- Notes are concise, pertinent & meet departmental documentation standards.
- Communicates and coordinates treatment functions with other disciplines in a constructive manner that helps build team effectiveness and cooperation.
- Communicates with PT and DOR regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems and successes.
- Participates in Care Plan, Interdisciplinary Rehab and Department meetings.
- Promotes a safe working environment and works to eliminate fire and safety hazards including broken or defective equipment and supplies.
- Supervises support personnel (Restorative Aides, Rehab Aides) with respect to state laws and professional standards.
- Utilizes support personnel (aides) when appropriate & when available.

- Participates in educational in-services/programs regarding physical therapy to staff, residents and the community at large.
- Advises DOR/PT regarding ordering of supplies and equipment as necessary to maintain optimal resident care standards.
- Ensures cleanliness of department and facilities per infection control policies and procedures.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures of the Rouse-Warren County Home. Assists in the development, review and implementation of policies and procedures as appropriate.
- Assists in the planning, development and implementation of new/enhanced programs and services.
- Participates in facility/department QA/TQI programs as appropriate.
- Consistently meet resident care productivity standard for position.
- Work cooperatively with peers to contribute to the overall productivity of the team
- Adheres to professional, ethical, & legal standards of practice.
- Demonstrates proper telephone use and assists in clerical and billing tasks.
- May be requested to perform tasks not included in this job description from time to time.
Education: Must be a graduate from an accredited PTA program; Must possess a Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Assistant license and/or indirect PTA licensure.
Experience: Hands-on clinical experience
Physical Requirements:
- Good physical and mental health.
- Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
- Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents, based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of this position.
- Physical demands: frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, and standing for long periods of time.

- Knowledge of areas of practice specific to geriatrics.
OTHER Qualifications:
- Must be detailed oriented, well organized, and able to take direction, and work well in a team situation.
- Must be proficient in: Billing/Accounting Software (Therapute), Calendar/scheduling software (Scheduling board), Medical Software (Quickcare & Caretracker), and Database user interface software (Excel, Windows, Microsoft Outlook, and Powerpoint).
