Job Title: Retail Specialist
FLSA Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: 20-25 hours per week
(2-3 shifts including Saturdays)
Department: Thrift Store, Colorado Springs Location
Reports to: Retail Sales Director
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
Provide a positive and friendly public image of Silver Key while supporting the day-to-day operations of the Silver Key Thrift Store: receive and process donations; provide exceptional customer service; foster a positive environment for volunteers. Work directly with the Retail Sales Director to carry out objectives and report back on any concerns or needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creates an extraordinary customer service experience by providing a warm and welcoming store that is clean and organized
- Supports, directs, and works alongside volunteers to carry out the day-to-day operations.
- Assists with scheduling volunteers as needed to cover shifts.
- Manages incoming donations effectively in accordance with established criteria and approved systems, as well as ensure new products go out daily.
- Assumes responsibility for day-to-day operations including cash handling, register reconciliation and making deposits.
- Maintains the proper processing, pricing, and stocking of DME donations.
- Provides specialized customer service to individuals in need of DME.
- Works closely with Retail Director to carry out changes that support the growth of the store and volunteers.
- Contributes to a work atmosphere that is safe, productive, efficient and fun
- Other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Silver Key Senior Services is a drug-free organization. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background checks. Business-specific knowledge: Knowledge of Silver Key Senior Services mission statement, policies/procedures, business-specific software, and safety regulations. This position does not require a background check by Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS).
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two or more years of retail and cash handling experience
- Two years of volunteer leadership experience
DESIRABLE, PREFERRED, OR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- A passion and knowledge of both classic and current/changing trends
- Attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Previous thrift store experience a plus
TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY
This position requires good proficiency in the use of a Point of Sale register. This position will often require multi-tasking in the use of register, phone, and retail equipment while interacting with clients.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability and comprehension of basic math including percentages and fractions; capable of interpreting appropriate retail sales data from management.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess and maintain a Colorado Driver's License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing and Walking: Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate store equipment.
- Reaching and Handling: Regular reaching to stock shelves and handle merchandise.
- Communication: Ability to talk, hear, and interact with customers and team members.
- Bending: Frequent stooping, kneeling, or crouching to access lower shelves.
- Lifting and Carrying: Must lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Pushing and Pulling: Occasional pushing and pulling of carts or merchandise.
- Visual Acuity: Adequate vision for reading labels, operating equipment, and ensuring accuracy.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Fast paced and moderate noise within a retail atmosphere with shoppers, music, and warehouse traffic.
