Trusted Staffe is partnering with a premier level 1 trauma center in San Francisco, CA to find a highly motivated and skilled Pathologists' Assistant (PA ) to join their dynamic team!
About the Opportunity:
As a Pathologists' Assistant at this leading trauma center, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by performing a wide range of duties in anatomic pathology. You will work closely with pathologists, medical laboratory scientists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and/or assist pathologists in the accessioning, dissection, evisceration, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of anatomical specimens.
- Prepare high-quality gross descriptions of surgical specimens, including macroscopic examination and evaluation.
- Assist pathologists with postmortem examinations, including prosection, and contribute to the development of provisional diagnoses.
- Participate in the frozen section and other intra-operative consultations, adhering to established protocols.
- Collaborate in the acquisition of tissue specimens for research purposes.
- Maintain digital pathology files, ensuring a high standard of specimen photography.
- Participate in the accessioning, labeling, storage, and disposal of specimens.
- Train and supervise entry-level pathology residents in laboratory methodology and procedures.
- May complete postmortem examination reports and participate in presenting findings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the pathologist or laboratory supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited pathologists' assistant training program.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- ASCP-certified or certification-eligible as a pathologist's assistant (certification-eligible candidates must achieve certification within one year of hire).
- Demonstrated proficiency in teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work in all UCSF Medical Center locations as needed.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, particularly within the field of pathology.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and perform well under pressure.
- Excellent data entry, word processing, spelling, grammar, and editing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Current Fellow member of the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA).
- Current member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Previous leadership experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
- Experience working in the pathology department of an academic medical center.
License/Certification:
- ASCP-certified or certification-eligible as a pathologist's assistant (certification-eligible candidates must achieve certification within one year of hire).
- Must maintain ASCP certification throughout employment.
