Under the general supervision of a pathologist, prepares surgical specimens for examination, dictates test results, operates photographic equipment, and performs other related duties. Performs gross dissection, dictation, microscopic examination, frozen section cases, clinical histories and examination summaries. Assists with histology preparation of specimens.

- 1. Technical Duties
- 1.1 Accurately processes surgical pathology specimens including properly fixing, cutting, photographing, and sectioning of surgical specimens
- 2. Technical/Professional Duties
- 2.1 Writes and maintains procedures of section in compliance with CAP guidelines

- 3.1 Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens

- 4.1 Follows established quidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems

- 8.1 Monitor Copath interfaces for proper performance
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in biology and successful completion of an accredited Pathologist's Assistant program.
EXPERIENCE
Three to six months job related experience to become familiar with a variety of procedures, techniques and equipment used in performing activities.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Professional knowledge and high level of analytical ability to perform postmortem and tissue examinations interpret finding and determine data to be forwarded to pathologist. Knowledge of anatomic pathology computer system functions. Ability to conduct gross dissection procedures utilizing surgical instruments.
