Patient Attendant
General Summary: The Patient Attendant provides indirect patient care under the immediate direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).
Essential Job Functions*:
• Performs patient sitting for patients requiring 1:1 after successful completion of required learning activities- MOAB and De-escalation training.
• Prepares room for patient arrival insuring all necessary equipment is replenished.
• Greets patient upon arrival, insures call bell, bed alarm, side rails and white board are completed as appropriate
• Assist patients getting ready for discharge by gathering their belongings and assisting them to their vehicle.
• Assists with hourly rounding and room safety checks.
• Delivers meal trays and sets up patients to eat. • Assists with lifting and positioning of patients.
• Assists with transporting patients.
• Answers call lights and directs patient needs to the appropriate resource.
• Stocks departments as needed. • Answers phones and handles calls appropriately.
• Participates/Engages patients in activities such as playing cards, puzzles, ambulation, etc.
• Other indirect patient care duties as assigned.
• Attends and participates in department/hospital meetings as required.
• Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
• Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values. Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and interdepartmentally.
• Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications:
Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: None.
Work Experience Required: Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital setting serving the same age/type of patient population.
Other Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated independent judgment in times of need, along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources. Computer literacy.
-Ability to write clearly and concisely.
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
