Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $20.82 per /hour.
- Shift differential is available for the night shift
- Career Ladder: Levels II and III opportunities are based on tenure and performance with a maximum pay rate of $32.03 per hour
Departments: Medical Oncology, Medical Pulmonary, Surgical, Surgical (Gynecology /Urology), Telemetry (Hoag Hospital Newport Beach & Hoag Irvine), and Advanced Brain and Spine (Stroke)

Other duties may include:
- Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs bedside patient care, anticipating patient needs, and prioritizing care.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for assigned patients: accurately measures and records vital signs, I&O, height and weight, and Activities for Daily Life and records in the patient record, ensures patient safety is maintained at all times and is documented.
- Immediately informs the Registered Nurse of any changes in the patient's condition from the previous baseline.
- Demonstrates knowledge in the use of equipment pertinent to treatment.
- Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs routine patient admission and discharge duties and documents in the patient record.
Qualifications:
Required
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Current certification as a Nurse Assistant/Certified Nurse Assistant from the state of California or completion of the first semester of a Registered Nurse program or equivalency.
- Limited Phlebotomy certification (must be obtained within the first year of employment). Not applicable for Patient Care Assistants hired with a Registered Nurse license.
- Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational ability.
- Knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures, and infection control.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Knowledge of section-specific test information and instrumentation may be required.
Preferred
- Recent employment as a Certified Nurse Assistant.

Department Description:
As a Patient Care Assistant - Medical Surgical and Telemetry, you’ll be asked to help support the nurses who serve patients in our various medical-surgical or telemetry units including Medical Pulmonary, Medical Oncology, Surgical, Surgical (Gynecology /Urology), Telemetry, Stroke, and Medical/Surgical Overflow. You’ll work under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse providing activities for daily living (ADL) support, comfort care, nutrition, and hygiene care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. You’ll also take and record clinical measurements, collect specimens, provide transportation, and maintain equipment and supplies.
