- Position Summary
The EmergencyDepartmentPatient Care Tech supports the Emergency Department professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care, performing phlebotomy functions, EKGs and assistive skills on all age groups neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric as assigned by the physician or RN. The Patient Care Tech performs clerical work and coordinates communications within the Emergency Department. This position also facilitates the information exchange process between the ED and other hospital departments.
- Education and Experience Requirements
- EDUCATION:
- Required:
- Certified Nurse Aide training from an approved course provider or
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or
- Completion of Emergency Medical Care Provider program
- Preferred:
- Paramedic course of study from an approved provider
- LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Required:
- Documentation of CNA course completion or
- Certified Medical Assistant or
- Certified Emergency Medical Care Provider program
- BLS within six weeks of hire
- Preferred:
Iowa EMT-P or Paramedic license
- TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Required:
- 1 year of CNA or Paramedic experience
- Preferred:
- 2-3 years of Emergency Department experience
- Essential Job Functions
- Perform various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients, under the direction of an R.N.
- Participates in the performance improvement process for improved outcomes to meet the Hospitals mission and goals.
- Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of the unit.
- Provides outstanding customer service to all patients, families, visitors, and team members, as evidenced by use of AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside report, prompt response to call lights and patient needs, and other Studer principles.
- Attends to patient needs and reports condition changes to R.N.
- Attends 50% of unit staff meetings to maintain awareness of job-related issues.
- Makes frequent rounds on patients and communicates any patient related safety hazards, observations, or problems immediately to an R.N.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
