Job Title: Patient Care Technician
Rate: $##
Days, Mon-Fri, 7a-3:30p, 5x8s, 40 hours, no weekends, every other holiday. Must have a minimum of one year acute care experience or medical/surgical clinical experience preferred.
BLS required, CNA preferred
Job Summary:
Provides assistance with nursing care of patients as needed under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing personnel. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the stated philosophy and standards established by the Nursing Services Department and regulatory agencies. The Patient Care Technician is accountable for the aspects of nursing care they are directed to provide within their scope of practice.
Job Functions:
1. Accepts assignments and under the direction from the Charge RN, or designee.
2. Immediately reports changes in patient condition to primary care RN
3. Completes assignments and demonstrates ability to adapt to changes in workload.
4. Accurately obtains, documents and reports vital signs and rechecks as needed. Reports abnormal findings to primary RN or Charge RN
5. Accurately measures and documents intake and output as needed
6. Performs capillary blood glucose testing utilizing proper technique and equipment document results and reports abnormal results to RN.
7. Performs ECGs.
8. Applies NIBP, ECG electrodes, pulse oximetry for monitoring of patients.
9. Assists with patient transport and transfer within department and hospital.
10. Assists with responding to patient call lights and/or family requests and refers appropriately.
11. Assures the safety of the patient population served by demonstrating age-appropriate skills when assisting with nursing care activities as directed by licensed nursing personnel.
12. Performs duties generally supportive to the activities of daily living for patients, which do not require nursing assessment skills during their performance.
13. Performs unit related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Director, or designee.
14. Attends appropriate in service and educational programs commensurate with job responsibilities.
15. Participates in unit/hospital projects that seek to improve patient care.
16. Maintains and supports patient?s rights to care, privacy and respect.
