POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of an RN, assists in providing patient care. Performs selected cross-trained skills, treatments and procedures specific to department for patients, including EKG and /or monitoring. Updates RN with timely information regarding status of patient in compliance with Patient Services Department policy and other regulatory agency requirements. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Minimum:
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant or completion of fundamentals of nursing course and be registered on the Illinois Department of Health Registry or a nurse who has completed RN or LPN Training in another country and completion of EKG.
- Bi-Annual CPR designation by recommended renewal date.
- Heart Hospital incumbents must complete BDI course with in six months of hire.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
•
Good interpersonal, organizational and critical decision-making skills.

Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
•
Basic arithmetic skills.
•
Exceptional customer service skills with all customers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
•
Under the direction of the RN/LPN provides patient care, utilizing proper technique, assisting patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
•
Provides the RN/LPN with accurate and timely information regarding patient needs and status.
•
Clearly and accurately documents and records observed patient information and care provided.
•
Implements and assists with physical therapy functions including, lifting, transferring, turning and positioning of patients, utilizing proper body mechanics.
•
Obtains patients specimen tests and accurately records information according to department policies and procedures.
•
Obtains and utilizes equipment and assists with necessary cleaning and maintenance.
•
Replenishes department supplies as needed.
•
Excellent customer service skills.
