Summary:
Responsible for conducting Interviews to assess uninsured patients to determine eligibility for healthcare insurance programs (e.g. Medicaid, SSI Disability, and ACA). Acts as a Designated Representative for the patient during the Medicaid application process.
Responsibilities:
Opens and completes a Financial Assistance case with supporting documentation in the Memorial Electronic Health Record. Documents interactions with patient/representative timely and accurately. Responds to patient inquiries regarding his/her case in a timely manner.
Prepare routine account status update reports for management regarding account management.
Prepare and file patient s application for Medicaid and/or SSI Disability using documentation obtained from the patient or patient s representative. Follow up with patient and/or agencies; requests and attends hearings and appeals as necessary. Respond timely to clinical staff inquiries around the application status.
Conduct interviews with uninsured patients and/or their representative to determine any potential coverage or benefits for which they may be eligible. Screen patient for potential disabling conditions. Advises patients of their financial responsibility upon completion of the application process.

Education and Certification Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must be able to work flexible hours. Must have a reliable personal form of transportation during work hours to perform in hospital/bedside patient visits. Travel reimbursement will be provided. Required Work Experience: No prior work experience required. Other Information: Prefer to have knowledge of the Florida Medicaid Program and the Medicaid application process.
