The PSR is the first point of contact for patients, and their caregivers. Responsibilities include patient interviews, collecting and verifying demographic, insurance and financial data, accurately entering information into computer that affects any aspect of the registration, or admission, process. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, accurate typing skills, knowledge of office procedures, and ability to work independently required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Greeting patients and caregivers on arrival in a welcoming and friendly manner.
- Providing support to patients, and their caregivers.
- Properly identifying patients utilizing two identifiers, name and date of birth, and scanning copy of patient identification into database.
- Registering and pre-registering patients in database including collecting accurate demographic and insurance information, verifying insurance, and scanning copy of insurance card into database.
- Proper completion and explanation of all required registration forms.
- Proper filing of Imaging requisitions.
- Adherence to general admitting policies and procedures to include proper placement of patients on appropriate nursing unit in appropriate status per practitioner order, and proper transfer of patients per practitioner orders.
- Timely and accurate discharge of patients per practitioner order.
- Coverage of Switchboard during lunches, breaks, and during the night shift (2300-0700)
- Follows proper procedures for deaths and autopsies to ensure timely handling of deceased patients.
- Management of patient valuables in accordance with the hospital policy and procedure.
- Collection of copays as required, following cash drawer process.
- Flexibility in assuming other appropriate responsibilities and duties not noted above.
Required Skills and Experience:
High school degree
Two years clerical experience required.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Previous healthcare experience and medical terminology preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e. use of computer keyboard). May require use of lifting and carrying light loads (up to 10 pounds). Sitting or standing/walking for long periods of time.
Location and Travel Requirements:
- Onsite at Cayuga Park
Pay Range Disclosure:
- $15 to $23 per hour
