Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Confirm patient identification prior to transport by verbal confirmation identification band on in-patients
Summary of Other Job Duties and Expectations
- Must be competent and knowledgeable in regards to the needs and concerns of individuals in various age groups (pediatrics to geriatrics).
- Document and alert the Radiology Supervisor/Director of the malfunction of various types of medical equipment used in the performance of job duties
- Make recommendations to the Operations Manager as to additional transport, IV poles, and oxygen equipment needed to operate the department
- Make recommendation to nursing staff on how to use proper transport modes for patients
- Recognize emergency situations and initiate code procedures and CPR if necessary
- Assure proper handling of patient's IV and other medical devices during transport
- Notify nursing units when leaving and returning with patients and utilizes ticket to ride.
- Assist in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and radiographic tables, utilizing safety procedures and correct body mechanics
- Clean and initiate repairs as necessary on all transport equipment
- Fill oxygen tanks as needed and check oxygen regulators for proper operations prior to use
- Utilize proper isolation techniques according to Hospital policy
- Assist patients to and from stretchers, wheelchairs, and radiology equipment to include CT/MRI scanner
- Review patient's chart and verify physician’s orders prior to patient transport to the department
- Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor
- Rotate call as needed
- Present self in a positive manner, as reflected by personal attire and etiquette
- Demonstrate a commitment to flexible scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
- May be crossed trained as needed

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education: N/A
Experience: Previous experience as transporter preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be BLS certified upon hire.
