Patrol Deputy - East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office

Job Duties:

Uniform Patrol Deputies are assigned to Substations located throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. They patrol their assigned areas and respond to dispatched calls for service. They stop vehicles for violations and investigate suspicious persons. They make arrests and issue tickets. Uniform Patrol Deputies respond to traffic accidents and they provide emergency medical assistance until paramedics arrive. They conduct investigations and write detailed reports. They also testify in court.

Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts

Qualifications:

• At least 21 years old
• Citizen of the United States or a permanent resident
• Have a minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency recognized by the State of Louisiana
• Must have one of the following
  • at least one year of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified law enforcement officer in a full-time position, whose job duties included armed duty with the power of arrest; or
  • Louisiana Law Enforcement POST Certification; or
  • 1 year of continuous active duty in the military; or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; or
  • 80+ semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university in a Bachelor's Degree program

Compensation and Benefits:

• $45,393 starting annual salary

• Retirement Plan -- Louisiana Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund is a defined benefit plan that allows employee contributions on a pre-tax basis. Employees contribute 10.25 % of their salaries to the retirement plan. Members do not pay social security (FICA) tax but they do pay Medicare tax.
• Louisiana Deferred Compensation Plan is a voluntary retirement saving vehicle. Employees may choose to contribute tax-free dollars to save for retirement. The plan is similar to a 401(k) plan offered in private industry, but there is no employer match for employee contributions. It is a 457 plan.

• Illegal use of prescription drugs in the last 24 months
• Any use of illegal drugs (other than marijuana) in the last 24 months
