The Payroll Accountant will play a critical role in managing the company’s payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payment to associates, and maintaining compliance with payroll regulations. Additionally, this is a key role on the Companion Protect HR Team not only in payroll administration but in supporting the overall People Strategy for the company.
What you’ll do here:
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including managing direct deposits, benefits withholdings, and other payroll deductions for two entities.
Calculates and processes taxes and garnishments in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date payroll records, including new hires, terminations, leaves and changes in associate information.
Ensures the associate experience for Payroll is seamless and reliable.
Assists associates with payroll-related inquiries and resolves any issues in a timely and professional manner.
Ensures compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements.
Works in close partnership with Finance Accounting Team to ensure all payroll data is captured and accounted for in the General Ledger.
Collaborates with HRIS Administrator and Finance to support the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing payroll reports and reconciliation.
Prepares and submits payroll tax filings and reports on time, including W-2 and 1099 forms.
Maintains business registration and tax accounts in accordance with all states in which the company conducts business.
Participates in payroll-related audits and provides required documentation and explanation as needed to auditors.
Assists in the development and implementation of payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the team:

Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external partners at all levels.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Proficient with payroll software.
Experience with UKG products a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field
Five years of related experience highly preferred
Where you’ll work: This is a hybrid opportunity, Tuesday through Thursday in the office.
