Our client, a retail chain of home improvement and agriculture stores, is seeking a Payroll Analyst for a 3-4+ month contract position. This role is fully remote, but candidate must work CST hours.
Day to Day:
This position is responsible for supporting the payroll team in the analysis and processing of payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.

- Assist Payroll Manager in the overall improvement of payroll processing efficiency and accuracy to ensure compliance with federal/state regulations and Company policy.
- Verify and validate payroll tax application and lead the reconciliation of payroll tax accounts.
- Perform research of newly imposed payroll taxes to provide proper guidance and understanding of correct application. Recommend and assist in the implementation of process changes and best practices to comply with payroll tax laws.
- Assist with setting up new locations with local payroll tax withholding obligation, registration with local agencies and filing of all local services tax returns.
- Assist with reconciling Biweekly Payroll with Quarterly filing to ensure validity of payroll information.
- Complete and support reporting for audits and requests from the internal audit team. Audit all payroll related balance sheet accounts. Ensure compliance with all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audit requirements.
- Partner with finance and accounting teams to accurately record and reconcile payroll labor expense.
- Collaborate with the IT and Human Resources to optimize setup and configuration of Kronos timekeeping. Assist in the development of business requirements for enhancements to Kronos that streamline payroll processes. Thoroughly test changes made to Kronos to ensure Team Members are paid accurately.
- Work with outside vendor on the setup and configuration of all payroll processes according to company policy. Test all changes to ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Provide excellent customer service to all Team Members and business partners and stakeholders
- Additional ad hoc projects as assigned.
- Process termination payments / same day payouts
- Add in historical edits / transfers to timecards
- Triage payroll mailbox ( approx. 300-500 emails per week )
- Assist in relocation payments to team members
- Upload epip ( .csv) files into ADP for payroll processing
- Process retro payments
- Process manual payments outside of payroll processing
- Set up new locations for Wisely Paycard
- Research missing pay
- 4 years payroll and payroll tax experience
- Kronos experience
- Version 5 of 6 ADP Enterprise experience
- Tax filing experience with knowledge of federal and state government payroll tax regulations; to include wage garnishments.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
- Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and problem solving skills.
- Someone who is self motivated, independent, and can be their own boss
- Experience processing payroll in a multi-state company
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, or related field. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
