Job Summary:
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist performs administrative duties related to the processing of payroll and delivery of benefits, and is responsible for daily operations and assistance to employees with all aspects of payroll and benefits.
The position is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing U.S. payroll for employees in Arizona, Nevada, and Texas on a bi-weekly basis, for a staff of approximately 200 employees. The Specialist enrolls new hires’ benefits and manages Benefit open enrollment, including communication with employees.

Job Summary:
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist performs administrative duties related to the processing of payroll and delivery of benefits, and is responsible for daily operations and assistance to employees with all aspects of payroll and benefits.
The position is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing U.S. payroll for employees in Arizona, Nevada, and Texas on a bi-weekly basis, for a staff of approximately 200 employees. The Specialist enrolls new hires’ benefits and manages Benefit open enrollment, including communication with employees.
- Prepare and process bi-weekly and off cycle payroll using Paycom payroll processing software while ensuring accuracy
- Perform duties related to the processing of payroll, including verifying employment history, reporting, unemployment processing, and detailed record keeping
- Assist employees with questions/changes regarding timecards, deductions, exemptions,
- benefits
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer payroll-related questions
- Maintain/update payroll instructions and documentation
- Import and audit time-tracking data (e.g., vacation, sick time), payroll deductions (e.g., insurance, 401(k), and supplemental wages (e.g., bonuses, commissions)
- Assist with HRIS reporting and system enhancements
- Maintain payroll reports and payroll database.
- Act as liaison with internal managers and payroll software providers
- Respond to and complete requests for employment verifications, wage audit requests (e.g. workers comp, unemployment), and wage garnishment requests
- Process and reconcile bi-weekly funding of 401(k) and other benefit providers
- Handle unemployment, pay reporting, and tax notifications for each state
- Support quarterly budget/forecasts for payroll taxes
- Enroll new hires benefits and manage “life events” Benefit open enrollment including communications with employees and tracking changes
- Inform employees of changes and developments e.g., eligibility, coverage provisions
- Act as the point of contact for external insurance carriers, vendors and benefit brokers
- Conduct employee surveys, census, and other research and demographic efforts required to collect accurate quotes from benefit providers
- Select carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits, and prior experience
- Audit and submit benefit invoices; maintain accuracy of carrier connections
- Manage leaves of absence and assist in benefit repayment calculations in collaboration with HR Manager:
- Ensure company compliance based on knowledge of state payroll laws
- Oversee wellness budget, activities and initiatives
- Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors to ensure the company provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation ranges
- Maintain the integrity of data stored in HRIS and recommend ways to leverage the system to gain operating efficiencies
- Train payroll “back-up” on payroll processing procedures
- Complete other projects as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years of experience in a payroll and benefits role
- Strong knowledge of Payroll & Benefits; compensation knowledge is a plus
- Experience working with payroll/HRIS software; Paycom experience is a plus
- Proficiency with MS Office required, advanced Excel skills strongly preferred
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $20.00 - $25.00 Per Hour
