About the Job
Lovelace Biomedical Research Institutes is seeking a Payroll Specialist. Under specific direction, the Payroll Specialist will review and process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 400 employees.
Will transmit direct deposit files to financial institutions and prepare manual checks as needed, maintain and review timesheets submitted through the electronic time collection system, compile and submit tax and unemployment reports, review and process a variety of employee deductions, prepare and audit quarterly tax returns, assist with the preparation and reconciliation of W-2 and other related tax statements, provide payroll-related customer service to internal and external customers, and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Qualifications:Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of directly-related payroll processing experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must have previous demonstrated experience processing payroll and all payroll-related tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Payroll Specialist must have strong attention to detail, a fundamental understanding of payroll laws, regulations and best business practices, and the ability to meet regular critical deadlines.
Must have superior professional written and verbal communication skills, a high degree of professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills. Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple shifting priorities, the ability to work independently, and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Previous experience with an automated payroll system is required, as is professional-level experience with Microsoft Office. Must have the ability to learn department-specific software systems as needed.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications :Previous experience with Deltek Costpoint strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:Work is performed in an office environment. Will operate standard office equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
