Position Summary:

Performs specimen processing and accessioning in the Referral Lab. Performs various types of specimen collection, phlebotomy (including mobile route) and drug test monitoring. Reviews lab reports and performs quality review and troubleshooting, resolving problems as they occur. Serves as member of laboratory client services team. May prepare specimens for testing, accessioning and packaging for dispatch to outside labs according to written protocols.

• Performs the full range of duties from specimen procurement through specimen processing by using laboratory equipment and devices. May perform EKGs as needed. 80%
• LAB SVCS_ Acts as a resource for the lab by handling and triaging inquiries to the appropriate personnel, including giving out lab reports and delivering specimens to the appropriate division. 20%

Required Qualifications:

• Technical knowledge of lab procedures, functions and processes gained through education, experience or a combination of the two
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• State of California Phlebotomy License (Certified Phlebotomy Tech I)
• Must provide proof of vehicle insurance in compliance with UC policy
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation. Position is subject to the California DMV's "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
• Current State of California Driver's License
• Access to reliable, personal transportation in order to commute to and from various offsite locations
• Ability to pass EKG competency test
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
