PEDIATRIC GASTROENTEROLOGY POSITIONS in the Beautiful BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS OF VIRGINIA - MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society
Roanoke, VA 24000
About the Job
Offering a great opportunity at Carilion Clinic and the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Carilion Children’s Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, we are recruiting two additional pediatric gastroenterologists to add to our team of three. Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Roanoke offers an excellent quality of life, with outdoor recreational opportunities, a vibrant arts scene, and highly rated schools. Enjoy the charm of a mid-sized city with all the amenities of a larger metropolitan area.
The new physician(s) will join an established clinic-based, academic practice to provide Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition services as part of the only tertiary center in southwest Virginia. In addition to clinical care, there are amazing opportunities in teaching, clinical research, and quality improvement. The position includes a faculty appointment with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine based in Roanoke, Virginia.
The new physician(s) will join three experienced Board-Certified Pediatric Gastroenterologists who provide comprehensive gastroenterology, hepatology and nutritional care services for our population of over 300,000 children including ambulatory care in our new state of the art facility, the full breadth of procedural care of all levels of complexity at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and inpatient consultation services for the pediatric inpatient units supported by the Pediatric Hospitalists, Pediatric Intensivists, Neonatologists and Pediatric Emergency Medicine providers. Call will be divided equally among all providers, 1:5 when the full complement has been hired. There is ample mentorship, along with procedural backup from our adult GI colleagues who operate an Advanced Interventional Gastroenterology Fellowship.
Our full service 92 bed Children’s Hospital provides universal care and intensive care to neonatal, pediatric and adolescent patients. It is part of the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, our 763-bed teaching/tertiary, Level 1 Trauma and Academic Center serving one million people in western Virginia.
The new candidate will contribute to the ongoing progress at the hospital, medical school and community. Over the last 20 years, Carilion has gone from a community hospital-based system to a full functioning Children’s Hospital, medical school, pediatric residency program, and last year added as the 9th college to Virginia Tech. As we grow, the new candidate will contribute to the potential that has been building here and will help be a contributing author to the story of Carilion Medical Center, and in partnership with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute.
We are actively involved in interprofessional education to include medical students from VTC School of Medicine and Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, residents from multiple Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech training programs, allied health science students, and VT undergraduate and graduate students.
A five time “All American City”, the Roanoke Valley is a metropolitan area of about 300,000 located at the southern tip of the Shenandoah Valley and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Instead of a 30–60-minute commute from a major metropolis, you will be home in often 10-15 minutes as you drive through and among the jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The region offers sensational outdoor activities but also a surprising array of cultural and professional activities, including mild four seasons, biking the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking the Appalachian Trail, boating, swimming, superb fishing and lake front properties at Smith Mountain Lake, kayaking in the Roanoke, James, and New River or nearby Carvin’s Cove reservoir. Theatre, symphony, opera, fine arts, history and science museums, snow skiing two hours away offering chalets or 5-star lodging. Access to major air-travel hubs is remarkably easy through the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport. Roanoke was added as an Amtrak station allowing access to Northeast Cities without needing to drive. The region features award winning public schools, magnet centers, private institutions, and nationally ranked and acclaimed colleges and universities. It has been coined “The best kept secret of the East.”
