Day to day as a Peer Recovery Specialist I - Adult Mental Health Supervised Housing
As a Peer Recovery Specialist I at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals facing mental health challenges. Your responsibilities will include providing compassionate peer support, serving as a consumer advocate, and assisting individuals with their basic physical, financial, social, and recovery needs. You'll engage in monitoring and advocacy, helping clients develop self-help groups and utilize resources like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Advance Directive for personalized wellness plans. Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Must be a person who has experienced a mental health and/or substance use condition and who has a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery to include making progress in learning about and managing his or her condition and in developing a life outside of or in addition to this condition. Must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire.
