Description:
The Peer Recovery Specialist works directly with the Center Manager and in collaboration with Wellness Mentors and members to plan and implement Wellness Center operations. This position also works to develop community resources and partnerships to meet the needs of the community and members.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Collaborate with manager and members to plan and conduct all aspects of day-to-day operations of the center.
- Model principles of peer support, mutuality, and wellness.
- Implement Center policies and procedures.
- Support members by preventing, treating, and supporting recovery for substance use disorders.
- Train the membership on the negative health and social consequences of dependence on alcohol and drugs.
- Coordinate Allies of Recovery and Friends of Recovery groups.
- Offer referrals to members regarding wellness, recovery, peer support, and community services.
- Collaborate with the Manager and members to provide individual peer support as needed.
- Work with Manager on community relations and marketing of the center.
- Assist members in identifying personal goals for recovery using one-to-one and group meetings.
- Participates in fund/resource raising activities as part of the CSPNJ corporate/small business fundraising initiatives.
Full-time | 40 hours per week | Tuesday - Saturday | Hourly Rate: $21.63

Requirements:- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Certification as a peer specialist in SUD or MH
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Good verbal and written communication
- Knowledge of wellness, the mental health system and community resources
- Ability to make and maintain contacts and positive relationships with individuals who receive or have received mental health and/or substance abuse services
- Willingness to disclose current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services and speak openly on aspects of their individual recovery
- Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Proficient in MS Office products
- Bilingual skills are preferred / a plus
- Valid NJ Driver's License with acceptable driving record
- Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others
