Job Summary
Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist. The Peer Support Specialist provides peer engagement services for individuals in various stages of addiction recovery including, but not limited to: peer support, resiliency-building support, mentoring and coaching, facilitating and leading support and educational groups, and advocating for clients and building community supports.
Responsibilities and Duties
It is the duty and responsibility of the Peer Support Specialist to:
- Facilitate and lead recovery support groups and activities;
- Provide mentoring and coaching to women in their recovery;
- Provide education to include skill building in areas such as life skills, wellness, parenting skills, goals setting and resiliency;
- Continuing education is required for certification
- Document the attendance of participants in individual sessions, groups and activities;
- Engage in community networking and support the clients in connecting to a recovery community prior to their discharge;
- Maintain contact with the client once discharged by conducting follow-up phone calls and on-going recovery check-ins and support;
- Offer support and provide resources to clients;
- Provide lived experience education and insight on addiction and recovery;
- Consult with supervisor if higher level of care is indicated
- Adhere to ethical practices that conform to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and compassion;
- Embrace diversity and demonstrate teamwork;
- Attend and participate in staff and client meetings as requested;
- Adhere to all federal Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations by protecting the privacy and security of all patient/client health information; and Federal Confidentiality including 42 CFR Part 2
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications include the following:
- High School Diploma
- LA State Peer Support Certification
- Preferred two years of sobriety and ongoing recovery.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with the community served by the agency
- Must attend required certified peer support training approved by LDH
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of various physical and behavioral health issues affecting the community served by the agency
