Title: Per-Diem Educational Coach Reports To: Director of Transition Services
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher. Experience in special education or human services, particularly with job coaching and/or community-based instruction.
Purpose:
SEEM Collaborative is looking for candidates who loved going to college, and are eager to help others have positive college experiences. Our per-diem educational coaches mentor and support youth with learning differences who are participating in inclusive college programming. Candidates will be assigned to work with one or more students enrolled in a MAIPSE (Massachusetts Inclusive Postsecondary Education) program on a college campus. They will assist with organization, writing, and study skills, while promoting self-advocacy and social skills to facilitate participation in campus activities.
The educational coach’s hours will be determined by the students’ schedules and follow the college calendar. Students typically participate in courses and campus activities 3-4 days per week. On average, the educational coach will be on campus 6 hours per day, depending on the need.
Students participating in the MAIPSE program are dually enrolled in their local high school. Educational coaches may be asked to collect data on IEP goals and objectives, and present information at IEP meetings.
Scope of duties
- Help students develop study and executive functioning skills (e.g., note taking, writing, preparing for exams, prioritizing assignments, managing time, advocating for accommodations and assistance as needed).
- Instruct the student on the hidden social and behavioral expectations of the college setting. Facilitate and model social interactions between students, college faculty, and peers.
- Help students navigate the college campus, and access various facilities (e.g., dining hall, library, student services, gym).
- Support self-determination, encouraging independence and informed decision making.
- Foster natural supports in campus and community settings, fading presence when possible.
- Participate in in-service training sessions and other professional development activities as may be provided from time to time.
- Conduct data collection.
- Attend and participate in IEP meetings when requested
- Other duties as assigned by the director of transition services and/or executive director.
Employment is contingent upon passing a SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening.

Evaluated by the director of transition services.
