ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains respect and dignity for the Resident at all times
- Observe Resident’s privacy by knocking on the door before entering, always ensure privacy during dressing, undressing, bathroom use, and showering.
- Verifies identity of resident receiving medications, check the EMAR to assure correct medication is being given and is documented correctly, and on time. Observes for medication sensitivity, interactions, and reactions.
- Obtains and records Resident’s vital signs, (Temperature, Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiration Rate and Oxygen Level) as directed.
- Responds promptly to Residents call pendant.
- Assist resident with dressing appropriately for the season. Ensure all undergarments are on, and clothing is in good repair and matching.
- Ensure residents hygiene needs are being met, follow the shower schedule daily and ensure the resident always presents clean and odor free.
- Ensure the safety of the resident. Make sure they are using the appropriate device as ordered for them and that the halls and rooms are free from clutter and debris.
- Provide verbal reminders to residents throughout the day for meals, activities, bedtime, etc.
- Ensure resident has clean clothing. Wash clothing as needed, check in closet, under bed, etc. For soiled clothing. After clothing is washed return clothing to room, clean clothes should be neatly folded and put in drawers or neatly hung in the closet.
- Complete incident report in its entirety for any unusual occurrence, event, change in condition, fall, medication error, etc.., pertinent only to the incident (no elaboration).
- Provides daily assistance in addition to the housekeeper in keeping resident’s room, common areas clean and clutter free. Make residents beds, empty trash containers, and pick up clutter.
- Clean common areas as assigned and appropriate to shift.
- Complete daily paperwork as required to assure all assigned duties are being performed for each resident.
- Report to work as scheduled. Maintain regular attendance and be punctual.
- Clock in on time, punch in and out for breaks, and at the end of your scheduled shift. You must complete appropriate paperwork for any missed punch.
- Stays awake at all times during shift.
- Attends all scheduled in-services.
- Assist in training new employees as assigned.
- Must be fully knowledgeable of the fire evacuation and disaster policy of the community and participates as assigned in fire and disaster drills.
- Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent personal or health information concerning residents and staff.
- Completes other duties as assigned and which relate to the success of the Personal Care facility, comfort, and happiness of our residents.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.

RESIDENT RIGHTS
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Ensure that you treat all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
- Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.
- Knock before entering the resident’s room.
- Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to Supervisor.
- Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
- Honor the resident’s refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses’ station, resident rooms, etc.).
- Moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all condition and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
- Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of twenty-five pounds.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
