PURPOSE:
The Personal Shopper position allows you the opportunity to get paid to grocery shop for our valued online customers from our local and extended island communities. In this position you will be required to provide fast order picking services for sales generated through our online platform. You will gather products listed on the customer's order; ensuring item accuracy, product quality and freshness. After picking the order you will be required to process the sale, package the order for storage, pickup or delivery. To be successful in this position you must be someone who takes pride in your work, cares about what is selected for our customers, and be quick to respond and offer excellent customer service. Additionally, if you are 21 years or old, have a valid driver's license and clean record you can earn more as an authorized delivery driver, too. DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
The essential duties of the Personal Shopper consist of, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- THE CUSTOMER IS THE FIRST PRIORITY; the entire store is in the forefront of that activity; and every member of the store's team is here to fully support that priority with prompt and friendly service.
- Strive to always provide the best customer service whenever possible.
- Follow the assigned weekly work schedule to ensure adequate coverage in the produce area, by maintaining punctual and regular attendance.
- Arrive at work on time and leave per scheduled time unless otherwise directed.
- Work overtime as assigned.
- Dress and groom according to company policy, including uniform, name badge, and hat or apron requirements.
- Always maintain a neat well-groomed appearance.
- Perform all duties in accordance with company rules, policies, safety requirements, and security standards, and all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
- Do not chew gum or play on mobile communication devices (MCDs) such as cell phones or tablets during the workday, which includes while off-site making deliveries.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Greet all customers that are within 10 feet of you, and provide them with prompt, courteous service, and assistance while on the sales floor.
- Assist customers in retrieving items from inaccessible areas or in obtaining products that are either located in the warehouse or items they may have difficulty handling.
- Prepare orders received online by accurately selecting product from shelves; organize and store the order in a timely manner for pickup or delivery.
- Comply with quality control standards and high customer service methods.
- Follow approved procedures for order fulfillment and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation.
- Be attentive to the customer order and any substitution requests. This includes looking at the picked order and reviewing to ensure order accuracy prior to finalizing the sale.
- Take precaution when handling and picking product to avoid damage to dry, chilled, or frozen products prior to delivery.
- Take stock of applicable storage and shelf areas and notify manager of low inventory conditions or excessive product spoilage problems.
- Remains current on product knowledge and food safety standards to ensure quality and freshness of orders.
- Identify item out-of-stocks, recommends substitutions of similar value, and promotes advertised specials whenever possible.
- Become familiar with our online ordering platform and confirm accuracy of item descriptions, size, quantities, and pricing during order fulfillment and checkout process.
- Be aware of competitor pricing and advertising tactics to protect the company from market share erosion. Communicate recommendations to the Store Management.
- Remain current on tender policies and procedures related to checks, gift cards, credit, debit, coupons, WIC EBT, etc.
- Access or memorize product codes and remains familiar with weekly ad pricing, discounts, and specials.
- Ensures accurate checkout totals for customers by properly weighing, keying, and scanning items.
- Ring up orders by scanning product or punching price into register, finalize sale and collect payment.
- Accurately record markups and markdowns, voids, and refunds and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies.
- Bag grocery orders and place them into designated carts, boxes and/or bags according to pick up or delivery time.
- Places orders in designated storage area at proper food temperatures and promptly retrieve order from storage prior to customer's arrival or delivery time.
- Organize boxes and bags, and load orders as needed for delivery or pickup.
- Maintain a clean and orderly workspace, especially those areas of high visibility.
- Assisted in keeping food preparation, display, and storage areas clean, clear and in good order through regular cleaning and sanitation program.
- Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of all equipment to ensure safe, clean, and sanitary operating conditions.
- Use all equipment, tools and utensils in a safe manner and comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Assist other departments as assigned by your supervisor in the performance of their duties so that they will be familiar with and able to handle all jobs and positions of the department.
- During any slow periods, to stay productive, performing other duties as assigned.
- Exhibit an attitude and approach to "get the job done no matter what it takes."
- Balance taking direction with taking initiative and demonstrate the flexibility required to accomplish the duties of the entire shift.
- Maintains a positive attitude and spirit of cooperation within the department. This includes the degree of cooperation, communication, and coordination between this position and its peers in other departments.
- Notified department manager of policy violations that is having an adverse effect on department operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Management.
- If authorized to drive a company vehicle and perform deliveries; review orders before and after delivery to ensure order accuracy, all items are present, and the customer is satisfied.
- When making deliveries abide by all transportation laws and maintain a safe driving record.
- Evaluate traffic patterns, alternative routes and weather conditions as needed to meeting delivery expectations.
PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate proficiency and efficient use of technology, including the Internet
- Must possess good communication and writing skills.
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- Must have basic math and accounting skills to do food costing and percentages.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English language effectively in order to read and understand written or verbal directions.
- Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and be able to communicate effectively with department employees, the store's coworkers and customers; Company handbooks, policies and procedures, and; Other written job-related documents including safety notices and other postings on company bulletin boards.
- This position requires an individual capable of sitting, standing for extensive period of time, walking, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying loads up to 50 pounds.
- Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and ability to adjust focus including having sufficient visual acuity to check and verify product labels, SKU's and other written documents.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- To be authorized to deliver orders: Must be 21 years or old, maintain a valid driver's license, and be able to pass a insurance screening of driving history with no major violations or convictions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment will be completed in a climate-controlled retail store environment; on occasion work environment may include occasional exposure to outdoor areas during rain, cold, sunny, warm or freezing conditions in order to accomplish tasks as hand.
