Job Description
The function of the Pharmacy Unit is to order and maintain floor stock of drugs and pharmaceuticals, packages, fills prescriptions and makes distribution to all hospitals. Provides consultative services as required.
Job Duties:
- Development, Coordination, Conduction and Evaluation of Education and In-service Program for the Unit.
- Conducts educational programs based on the review of JCAHO, Federal, and State standards, patient care evaluations, position descriptions, performance evaluations, questionnaires and surveys, interviews, meetings, and various hospital committee reports.
- Develops, coordinates and conducts facility orientation program to all current staff, new hires, student hires, and others.
- Maintains records of all training in-services, orientation, and other educational records as necessary.
- Participates in full spectrum of project development.
- Deploys full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
- Effectively communicate project expectations to staff in a timely and clear fashion.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise staff members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
- Build, develop and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project. Work closely with other educators in order to synchronize efforts.
- Utilize best practices and tolls for project execution and management.
- Encouraging and assisting clinical staff with new strategies, techniques, equipment and materials by arranging a variety of development activities such as conferences, seminars and seeking specialty certifications.
- Develops and implements a staff development program to address the needs of the pharmacy unit. Provides training in the identified areas as well as on new techniques, equipment and research findings.
- Educates health care professionals and students, patients, and the public on rational drug therapy. This may occur in the form of in-service/out-service training, phone consultation, and/or written communications (i.e., newsletter).
- Enhances the professional growth and development of self and pharmacy staff by coordinating educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops and review of current literature.
- Reviews and interprets drug orders and prescriptions. Compounds medications and labels and dispenses medications/pharmaceuticals.
- Identifies therapeutic categories or individual therapeutic agents warranting drug use evaluation and in conjunction with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, develops criteria and performance standards of the evaluation in the identified areas.
Education Requirement:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate or Pharm.D degree in pharmacy.
License Requirement: A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Pharmacist at the time of appointment.
Professional Pharmacist Experience: Applicants must possess full-time work experience as a licensed pharmacist in the amounts listed below:
Pharmacist II: 1 year
PREFERRED SKILLS
PGY-1, PGY-2 residency or equivalent institutional experience preferred.
Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) or other specialty preferred.
Supervisory Aptitude:
Applicants for Pharmacist I, II and III must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.
Pre-Employment Health Requirements
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
