About the Job
Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care.
Job Duties:Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Reviews charts for patient compliance and drug interactions. Reviews appointments, labs, x-rays, consults and any other pertinent data and assures appropriateness of drug therapy. Brings appropriate problems to the supervisor's attention. Reviews prescriptions issued by Physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Directs pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substance, and disposal of waste drugs. Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory. Plans and organizes daily workflow of the pharmacy. Intervenes in cases to maintain positive effect of patient outcome, significant drug interactions and cost savings as appropriate. Adheres to professional ethical standards. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 1-3 employees in the assigned clinic. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university; no substitutions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No additional experience required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Oklahoma and maintain CPR certification.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
