UC Health is hiring for a part-time Pharmacy Intern for The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at the University of Cincinnati's Medical Center.
The Pharmacy Intern provides support to pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists, and pharmacy leadership in all aspects of providing pharmacy services. Functions performed under the supervision of a pharmacist include but are not limited to interdisciplinary patient care rounds, admission medication history, medication counseling and patient education, drug information, drug dosing, drug preparation, drug distribution, and medication administration as allowed by law.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED, the minimum required. Must be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy, the minimum required.
License and Certification: Current pharmacy intern registration that is recognized by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
Work Experience: 0-6 months of equivalent experience, the minimum required. 1-2 years equivalent experience, preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge: Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities and solve problems; respond quickly to emergency requests; communicate effectively (orally and in writing), and assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by the organization.

Unit Details:
- Intern program incorporating operations and clinical opportunities
- Learning environment that allows for constant development
- No on-call requirements
- Every other weekend rotation schedule
Responsibilities
- Provide support for the Drug Policy Development Committee and Subcommittees in UC Health's formulary system for inpatients and ambulatory patients
- Maintain and update the record of DPD and subcommittee actions monthly.
- Develop New Drug Memos to provide education to staff on new drugs added to the formulary.
- Update and format approved guidelines, therapeutic interchanges, and other formulary support tools once approved by DPD
- Tabulate formulary changes associated with cost savings for the system.
- Support drug information and education
- Develop drug information responses on request.
- Provide notice of alternatives to drug shortages
- Develop system-level communications for notable policy updates and procedural changes.
- Support formulary and operational quality improvement initiatives
- Assess medication use and compliance with the health-system formulary.
- Conduct medication use evaluations per DPD and subcommittee requests
- Support the enhancement of technology used in the medication use process
- Maintains competence required for current job title/position
- Maintains current intern registration.
- Attends pharmacy staff meetings.
- Participates in orientation, education, and training programs; reviews literature and other materials as assigned
- Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.
- Meets hospital and department standards of performance.
- Maintains a neat, professional, and well-groomed appearance; observes pharmacy dress code; wears identification badge at all times
