- JOB SUMMARY
Performs all aspects of drug distribution, recordkeeping and inventory control under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Responsible for advanced technical functions as outlined in job requirements.
- JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education and/or experience: Certification by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required. Two years pharmacy experience or completion of accredited technician training program. Satisfactory performance as Technician I during six-month probation period required.
- Knowledge: Should have working knowledge of drugs names, medical abbreviations, aseptic technique and pharmacy calculations.
- Skills: Good computer and math skills. Proficient performance of at least three of the following functions:
- Preparing cancer chemotherapy admixtures
- Purchasing and inventory control management activities including: maintaining and updating inventory shelf labels; processing vendor returns and recalls; and assisting pharmacist with monthly narcotic inventories and recordkeeping.
- 340B inventory control, auditing, and patient management.
- Coordinating unit stock systems, including automated devices.
- Drafting, revising and assisting in implementation of new/revised policies and procedures.
- Coordinating training of new volunteers, students and technical staff.
- Coordinating regular technician meetings.
- Managing automation systems, such as Robot and Carousel
- Proficient order entry skills including: accurately entering orders, alerting pharmacist of drug interactions, allergies, duplicate therapies, unusual dosages, and consults.

Obtaining and documenting the medication history of patients in the emergency department and patients admitted to hospital.
- Abilities: Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to perform advanced technical skills.
