Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician is an integral member of the Department of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician support oncology infusion and clinic in a physician office setting through the management and execution of the ordering, inventory and compounding of drugs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
1. Communicate clearly and thoroughly, provide excellent customer service and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
2. Ability to be organized and pay attention to details and follow through. Ability to problem solve to logical conclusion and demonstrate initiative and responsibility.
3. Effectively and clearly communicate (written and verbal) in English.
4. Successfully learn and navigate various computer programs and EHR.
5. Must have reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license and car insurance. Certain facilities require bilingual skills. Check with Human Resources.

Back Office Responsibilities:
1. Manage high-cost drug inventory including ordering, stocking and disposal of expired medication.
2. Compound chemotherapeutics and other medications as required in an oncology setting.
3. Perform medication reconciliation and patient education as needed.
4. Make accurate and precise callbacks under protocol to communicate provider instructions for medications as needed.
5. Perform accurate charting/documentation of communication with patients, assessments, and interventions per scope of practice.
6. Adhere to infection control, universal precautions, and use of personal protective equipment as needed for all patient care procedures, maintenance of equipment, and disposal of waste. Dispose of contaminated/non-contaminated sharps in the appropriate disposal container.
7. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of pharmacy space and all treatment areas as needed or directed.
8. Access and interpret needed information from facility MSDS book or MSDS on-line in a prompt manner.
9. Respond to and participate in all clinical emergencies and maintenance of emergency equipment.
Front Office Responsibilities:
1. Scan the schedules to ensure appropriately scheduled appointments, alerting supervisor to any concerns/issues, and to verify drugs are ordered/on hand.
2. Monitor EHR Work Log and Task basket continuously and process accordingly.
3. Accurately file paperwork in corresponding medical records, in date order and according to standard chart format.
4. Document and follow through on messages. Notify supervisor of inability to complete message protocol when necessary.
5. Other duties as assigned.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications/Work Experience
Minimum one (1) year of experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting (preferred)
Minimum one (1) year of experience in compounded sterile products preparation and procedures (preferred)
Must have reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license and car insurance.
Education/Licensure/Certifications:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy technician program required.
Active license issued by the California state board of pharmacy required.
PTCB certification preferred.
