The Pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department, ensuring that the material and service requirements are met in a timely, efficient, effective and ethical manner. This position is a high functioning position which requires attention to detail and a thorough understanding of pharmacy operations.
He or she will work across functional and limited boundaries to ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction relative to pharmacy customer service
WORK PERFORMED
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting the pharmacist in all the daily functions of the pharmacy
- Utilizing good communication skills when speaking with customer, both in person and via other lines of communication (email, phone, fax, etc)
- Greeting customers entering the pharmacy or the department
- Directing customers to the proper department and or Hartzell's team member for further assistance
- Selling related products to customers by suggesting companion items
- Assisting customers locating over-the-counter items, including vitamins and DMEPOS items.
- Answering all incoming phone calls and directing those phone calls to their proper destinations.
- Executing workflow procedures
- Receiving and verifying inventory shipments for pharmacy stock, over-the-counter stock, and pharmacy supplies.
- Assisting the pharmacy manager with inventory management and achieving budgeted inventory targets
- Assisting the pharmacy manager with implementing our inventory return and inventory out-date processes
- Maintaining pharmacy automation and equipment per manufacturer recommendations and pharmacy policies
- Delivering pharmacy orders to customers residents or contracted facilities
- Managing waiting bin ques to ensure timely return to stock for orders not picked up
- Facing shelves both in the pharmacy and front store to maintain a full, friendly, and inviting appearance upon starting and ending shift.
- Cleaning and maintaining a clean and organized work area
- Other related duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assisting pharmacy management with managing all aspects of inventory, including but not limited to ensuring accuracy inventory, appropriate limits with respect to ordering tills, reporting of inventory to management, processing outdates, and ensuring shelves are appropriately faced and labeled.
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Executing workflow and completing orders accurately per policy
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of pharmacy terminology
- Must have working knowledge of computers and Internet.
- Skill in basic arithmetic.
- Self-starter, organized and detail oriented.
- Comprehensive knowledge pharmacy services business and operations.
- Ability and willingness to follow tasks as relayed.
- Ability and willingness to exercise tact, initiative and good judgment in dealing with people.
- Proficient in the knowledge of technology solutions to operate and expand the business.
- Possession of a current license to operate a motor vehicle
- Must have access to a car for business purposes.
BASIS FOR EVALUATION:
- Ability to accurately interrupt, process, and complete pharmacy orders per policy.

- Ability to identify customers eligible for companion items and appropriately refer or educate
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical Demands:
- Good physical and mental health.
- Standing and walking for up to eight hours per day.
- Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Occasionally stooping and bending. Rarely crouching and reaching above shoulder level.
- Hearing as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequency.
- Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, peripheral vision, and visual monotony.
- POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:
- Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens while working in our CLIAA waived lab services or immunization clinics.
- SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:
- Basic personal protective equipment provided if needed: gloves, masks, etc.
- MOST COMPLEX DUTY:
- Knowledge of workflow and multitasking of workflow.
SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO):
- Pharmacy Manager
- This is not a supervisor position
COMMUNICATIONS:
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM)
- EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Current certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent preferred
- TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Pharmacy Technician experience of 2 or more years preferred.
