The Pharmacy Technician provides, prepares, and fills prescriptions through the River Valley Family Health Center pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for provide exceptional customer service with patient oriented, community building mindset. This position participates in clinical staff meetings. This is a full-time position requiring 40-hours per week.
CHARACTERISTIC, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIEIS:

- Assists the Pharmacist in filling prescription items, as permitted by the State Board of Pharmacy.
- Transcribes prescription information to produce labels, understanding sig codes.
- Labels products appropriately, including cautionary or auxiliary labels.
- Takes inventory, places orders, checks in drugs and supplies, stocks shelves and removes out-of-date items from the inventory.
- Inputs patient data and medication orders into a computer system.
- Prepares medications including emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments in compounding pharmacy under the supervision and discretion of the pharmacist.
- Packages medications for dispensing and for delivery and mailing.
- Communicates with all customers in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Processes returned medications from the facility for credit or destruction.
- May lead and direct the work of other pharmacy technicians.
- Acknowledges customers on entry to pharmacy, provides their prescriptions and uses point of sale to complete transactions.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and customer service orientation to clients, peers, and providers. Will work in collaboration with other medical assistants/nursing staff and providers.
- Responds to patient inquiries regarding their pharmacy and medication concerns within the scope of certified pharmacy technician duties. Warm hand off to pharmacist for counseling needs.
- Provides health related education to clients and their families including basic medication instructions, how to get refills, how to transfer medications, and explaining general pharmacy workflows to patients.
- Point of service sale of medications, cash register and money handing, and drive-through operation
- Responsible for delivery of medications as necessary. I.e.- driving medication to patient’s house or kiosk, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed for the delivery, medication is properly stored during transport.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education or Formal Training & Experience:
- Highschool Diploma required.
- 2+ years’ experience working as certified pharmacy technician preferred.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred. However, will train right proactive applicant, must obtain provisional pharmacy technician licensure.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
- Knowledge of State laws regulating pharmaceutical compounding practice
- Strong knowledge of product preparation, compounding, packaging and labeling as well as quality assurance standards
- Ability to excel performing multiple tasks at the same time without making errors
- Yearly training in OSHA, HIPAA, and in pharmacy procedures and policies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with patients, staff team members.
- Cash register/POS operation and cash handling skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet job requirements

- Provide exceptional customer service in positive, friendly and professional manner
- Proficient computer skills

- Knowledge of 340B program preferred.

Physical Requirement and Workplace Environment:
- Requires periods of mostly standing and walking.
- Requires long periods of time sitting while on the telephone and/or doing computer work.
- Requires sufficient near vision to be able to read documents and computer screen.
- Essential to have ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 35 pounds.
- Essential to have ability to use routine office equipment such as computer and telephone.
- Essential to have ability to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, twist and reach.
- Essential to have ability to hear routine conversations.
- Essential to have ability to comprehend both oral and written communications.
- OSHA Classification is Category I: All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissue, or a potential for spills or splashes of these fluids.
