About the Job
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.
Job Summary
The Technician II, Health Systems Pharmacy provides assistance to the Pharmacist in the daily operations of the pharmacy. Activities include the preparation of and filling of prescriptions, taking pharmacy inventory and processing product returns. The Technician II, Health Systems Pharmacy ensures that all orders are reviewed by a registered pharmacist and records all activity in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines. This job frequently communicates with customers to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment of all orders.
This position is responsible for assisting and supporting the site-based clinical pharmacists in providing and supporting pharmacy services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications at Taunton State Hospital, Pocasset Mental Health Center, and Corrigan Mental Health Center. This is a full time position (40 hours per week) primarily located at Taunton State Hospital with about 8 hours per month spent at Pocasset and Corrigan Mental Health Centers. Pharmacy operations at these sites currently take place Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm.
Responsibilities
Verifies receipt of medication deliveries at the site(s) and reviews for accuracy.
Demonstrates competency in the use of automated dispensing machines (ADMs).
Maintains pharmacy inventory through filling the ADMs at the site(s), anticipates needed medications and supplies, and communicates with the site-based clinical pharmacists and/or PDC regarding any medication stock changes or needs.
Accurately loads medications from restock lists into ADMs.
Empties and reconciles contents of ADM return bins
Accurately loads new inventory items and removes items deleted from inventory in ADMs.
Monitors ADM stock-outs and resolves in a timely manner.
Reports automated dispensing equipment issues promptly to the System Automation Technician.
Monitors medication supply for outdates and rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
Performs medication room/unit inspections and communicates results with site-based clinical pharmacists and PDC Director of Pharmacy.
Assists the System Automation Technician with review of current par levels at the site(s) and assists with implementation of par level and/or stock changes.
Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately, as applicable
Demonstrates competency in packaging equipment and adheres to established processes and procedures, as applicable.
Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and quality improvement programs.
Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control. Complies with all applicable state, local and federal regulations.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Massachusetts pharmacy technician license or ability to obtain licensure.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or ExCPT) preferred.
Previous experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
Ability to use technology such as computers, smart phones and tablets.
Experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint preferred.
Strong communication skills.
Strong customer service skills.
