DESCRIPTION
Purpose Statement / Position Summary
Assist and support the licensed clinical care team members by providing phlebotomy services in an ambulatory care environment. Responsible for the performance of multiple duties relating to specimen collection and handling in a medical office setting while utilizing the five (5) Simply Better steps with every patient and team member interaction.

- CLSI recommended Order of blood draws
- Gray top (Fluoride, Potassium Oxalate)
- Green Top (Heparin, Ammonia)
- Instruct patient on proper collection and preservation for laboratory specimen
- Light blue top tubes (coagulation)
- Patient positioning Post venipuncture site care
- Prioritize patient collections based on order request (stat, timed, routine)
- Process specimens for laboratory (centrifuge, aliquot, storage)
- Red top tubes (plain)
- Understand Mode of action of additives/anticoagulants in blood collection tubes.

- Vacutainer method

- Finger stick

- Aseptic Technique
- Blood specimen storage
- Data entry
- Proper labeling Quality assurance and controls
- Transmission based precautions
- Minimum 2 years experience required
- Phlebotomy licensure required
- BLS & Medical Terminology Cert or knowledge
- EPIC required
- Hospital experience required
