Job Summary:
Collects and handles blood specimens and maintains supplies in the phlebotomy section room. Required to do order entry and result retrieval. Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations
Performance Expectations: Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phase of your orientation to your job.
- Demonstrate the ability to use various computer programs in addition to the EMR system
- Demonstrate the ability to multitask
- Demonstrate the ability to perform POC test procedures
- Demonstrate the ability to perform various methods of specimen collection (i.e. venipuncture, skin puncture)
- Demonstrate the ability to correctly enter orders through multiple workflows (i.e. outpatient, requisition entry).
- Demonstrate the ability to correctly package and ship diagnostic specimens.
- Demonstrate the ability to receive specimens into the laboratory and dispatch to the appropriate section.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner. Adheres to and promotes established values of the organization, i.e. customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards.
- Demonstrate consistency in following FGH policy, procedures, and standards of care in performing all duties.
- Demonstrate participation in department meetings and education/training and meets the established deadlines for completion.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
High school graduate or G.E.D. required
Work Experience:
None required. Phlebotomy experience preferred
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- ASPT or equivalent preferred.

Ability to set priorities for tasks, communicate effectively, cooperate with others, perform
repetitive tasks, take orders, follow directions precisely, and function under stress.
