Rivers Health is seeking a PRN Phlebotomist in the hospital Laboratory. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time. * Collects specimens from patients in a manner that supports the guest relations policy of the hospital. Using 2 identifiers. * Identify, accession, and distribute samples within department policy and procedure. * Prepare samples properly for testing by reference laboratory in appropriate fashion. (ie: DHL, Airborne, Fedex, US Mail, etc.) * Ensures that adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated volume of testing. * Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital and department policies and procedures. * Participates in all mandated inservice programs on an annual basis. * Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills. * Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration. * Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams. * Other duties that may be assigned. * Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook. * Stocks and cleans work areas as required. * Performs general clerical duties, including filing, answering phones, greeting all customers, distributing patient reports. * Provide courier services as directed by supervisor to outside accounts, utilizing private or corporate owned vehicles. * On call as directed. * Respond to all calls within a 15-minute time frame. * Must have cell phone close by and charged accordingly. EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING: Completion of high school or equivalent (plus certification by ASCP desirable). Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Phlebotomy training from a Licensed Program. WORK EXPERIENCE: None but three to six months preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must be able to perform venous capillary and arterial punctures. Must be able to read and understand laboratory instruction manual. Must demonstrate the ability to identify and address the special needs of the ages of patients including neonates, adolescents, pediatrics, and geriatrics and can effectively communicate with the patient.Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Disabled
