We are currently seeking an experienced:
PHYSICAL CABLING TECHNICIAN
Full Time, Days
Travel Required
JOB SUMMARY:
- Installing new data and phone cable and associated hardware including testing, labeling, and cable certifications
- Inspect work performed by contractors at new facilities
- Terminating and testing new cable, including block and patch panel punch downs
- Testing and troubleshooting faulty cable
- Cross-connecting circuits using patch panels
- Maintaining core datacenter infrastructure; following BICSI and organization standards
- Coordinates network activities to include overseeing network cabling design, new product testing, infrastructure upgrades, and technical support.
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves network infrastructure problems to include, if necessary, wire maps and POE testing.
- Configuring programs to meet end-user needs; troubleshooting issues; and reviewing usage reports.
- Help keep company standards up to date with current BICSI code.
- Serves as a consultant to department heads and staff by assessing needs and recommending appropriate solutions.
- Networking cabling technician must be knowledgeable in various wiring configurations and terminations, as well as possess technical skills and knowledge of telecommunications industry and installations, including voice, data, and video structured cabling systems
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of two years of hands-on experience working with cable infrastructure.
- BICSI Installer 2, Copper or higher OR
- BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber or higher
- NC Low Voltage or High Voltage license preferred, Journeyman would be considered
- A strong working knowledge of TIA, EIA, BICSI, or NEC Standards; including installation, trouble shooting and service, and working knowledge of building codes, electrical codes, communication standards, and installation may be required
- Experience with installing j-hooks, ladder racks and cable trays, and working in MDF/IDF environments may be required. Experience in communications cabling
- Knowledge of labeling, pulling and dressing category 3, category 5e, category 6 and fiber optic, and previous wiring or data experience (Audio Installer, Network Installer, Cable Installer, etc.) is a plus
- Experience with installing j-hooks, 66/110 blocks, ladder racks and cable trays, and working in MDF/IDF environments may be required. Experience in communications cabling is strongly preferred
- Valid Driver’s License.
- ITIL knowledge preferred.
- Must exhibit strong customer service techniques
- Must have an understanding of budgetary principles; Company operations; and Basic accounting practices.
