Physical Rehab Ancillary Physical Therapist
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, the Physical Therapist evaluates and treats all patients referred for physical therapy in the Inpatient Rehab setting; prepares reports and communicates patient progress to MDs, nurses, case managers and other clinical staff; assists with patient discharge recommendations; contributes to the development of the department.
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Director of Physical Medicine
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide direct patient care.
- Designs and implements a plan of care for the patient based on assessment.
- Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
- Communicates with members of team including physician, nursing, support staff and families, providing instructions and training as indicated to achieve positive outcomes.
- Document evaluations , treatment goals, and plans.
- Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote physical therapy within the community.
- Completes documentation and outcomes measures for evaluations, daily and weekly progress notes and discharge summaries as required by IRF regulations.
- Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcome.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- BS, MS or doctorate degree in physical therapy from an accredited institution.
- Current license to practice physical therapy in the state of Louisiana.
- Must maintain required hours of in-service per year to meet requirements for CEU's as stipulated by the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy.
- CPR certification as outlined in the hospitals policies and procedures.
- Ability to remain calm in a emergency or crisis situations.
- The necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work is medium, preferably up to 50 pounds of lifting or carrying without help or over 50 pounds with help. Included is handling patients of all weights, with help as needed, to perform transfers, bed mobility, getting into equipment, and getting into and out of clothing.
- Positions required include standing and walking on a frequent basis; sitting, kneeling, and stair climbing on an occasional basis; stooping and bending on a frequent basis to assist patients; overhead reach on occasional basis; pushing/pulling on a frequent basis including wheelchairs, stretchers, and pulling or tugging on patients.
