It is one of the largest employers in every community it serves.Job Description SummaryThis role is primarily accountable for clinical leadership of the specialty services within the SSM Medical Group, St. Louis. These include: cardiovascular services, neurosciences, orthopedics, surgical services, OBGyn, and some medical specialties. Develops short- and long-term strategic and operational plans for these specialty services ensuring alignment with broader organization priorities. Provides leadership to help grow department services and enhance medical group operations. Oversees these specialty services within an integrated delivery network. Ensures these specialty services successfully make the transition from volume to value, a foundational strategic imperative for the medical group. Initiates key relationships with other SSM leaders as well as with community leaders in the communities being served.Job DescriptionPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESServes as a member of the medical group executive leadership team providing clinical and strategic direction. In partnership with the Vice president of Medical Practice for Primary care and population health, oversees all physicians and clinicians of the entire medical group. Works effectively as a team member in a dynamic executive environment in a matrix organization, and promotes teamwork within and across the organization by maintaining positive relationships and utilizing effective problem solving skills. Works in close partnership with specialty department chairs and operational leaders to advance the medical groups progressive culture and drive key performance indicators (KPI) of the medical group. These include a balance scorecard of outcomes such as financial, quality, patient experience, engagement, and transformation,Oversees physician and provider performance for the assigned areas creating a culture of high performance and differentiated employee engagement. Develops physician and clinical leaders to ensure robust succession planning needs within the team. Partners with strategy and business development to recruit clinical talent needed to ensure robust clinical specialty services. Interfaces effectively with other regional clinical and operational leaders, both in the community and academic settings (St. Louis University Physicians). Embraces and utilizes SSMs operating model to drive toward outcomes.Promotes team building and collaboration. Motivates, encourages and empowers clinicians to achieve personal, organizational and team goals. Recognizes accomplishment. Encourages and provides opportunity for clinician input and feedback regarding improvement opportunities.Addresses and resolves destructive conflict between groups. Translates initiatives into action plans at the departmental level with appropriate performance measures. Ensures financial goals are achieved for the assigned operating units. Establishes and monitors process improvement initiatives to achieve value-based outcome metrics.Creates an environment in which effective communication and responsiveness to specialty clinician needs. Provides timely resolution and response to customer/patient complaints, concerns and suggestions.Keeps up to date on national trends in health care delivery and population health management. Provides oversight of regulatory issues and implications for medical groups at the local, state and national levels.Maintains knowledge of administrative and safety policies and procedures. Maintains knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory and accreditation requirements which affect the assigned area and develops and implements processes to achieve and maintain compliance.Participates in professional organizations and educational activities pertinent to health care leadership.Regularly displays and encourages ethical behavior in the areas of business ethics, legal compliance, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, vendor relationships and the reporting of questionable activities.While this role is predominantly administrative, it is expected that this leader will maintain a small component of clinical practice to ensure clinical credibility. This clinical component is negotiable and is estimated to be less than 0.25FTE.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATIONDoctorate from an accredited school of medicine. Practicing physician in a specialty service line is highly desired.EXPERIENCETen years clinical practice experience, with five years' in progressive leadership is preferred
