Renown Health and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) are affiliate partners in Nevada's first integrated academic health system. The affiliation aims to improve the health of the community, region, and state through research, medical education, and expanded clinical care. Renown physicians participate as joint faculty at UNR Med for teaching, lectures, supervising clinical rotations, and other academic activities for the education of medical and physician assistant students, residents and fellows.

Position Purpose

MEDICAL GENETICIST: Physician shall provide clinical services to patients who are appropriate for the scope of medical genetics including, but not limited to, genetic counseling, genetic consultations, early detection and prevention of genetic diseases, treatment of genetic diseases, and performing genetic and genomic testing. Physician shall provide regular clinic coverage, inpatient and emergency consultation as needed. Physician will be expected to collaborate with and supervise mid-level providers. Physician can expect to have some involvement with public health education, administration and research. A component of the physician’s time will be allocated to teaching residents and medical students as appropriate.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent obtains history, examines, diagnoses, counsels, and treats patients within the physician’s area of specialty and experience. The incumbent makes critical decisions regarding medical care. The incumbent works closely and in cooperation with the management staff, directs comments and questions to the appropriate management person and follows administrative policies. The incumbent actively participates in physician governance meetings, management decisions, and follows policies adopted by Renown Health and its medical staff. The incumbent stays abreast of current advances in medicine by reviewing recent publications, attending in-services and educational meetings, and attending continuing medical education programs in the appropriate field.

Minimum Qualifications

Name Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Experience:

Prior experience in referenced specialty, preferred.

License(s):

Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.

Certification(s):

Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Medical Genetics through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Board Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment.

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification, but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Ability to credential through Renown’s Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable.
