- JOB SUMMARY
- Provides competent nursing service, demonstrates general nursing knowledge by utilization of the nursing process, assumes responsibility/accountability for the outcome of nursing care guides and supervised assigned personnel in delivery of patient care. Prior experience performing phlebotomy and EKG's. Responsible/accountable for ensuring that his/her clinical behavior is consistent with the Nursing guidelines of the state in which he/she practices and the mission, goals and standards of KDMC.
- DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assesses daily clinical and clerical processes and implements method to optimize patient flow; assesses patient's complaints and health care needs, documents vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, duration of complaint, and current medications on each visits to clinic; observes patient to detect symptoms outside of established normal limits. Read and understands medical record.
- Recognizes and documents the learning needs of individual patient/families and identifies factors influencing patient and/or family learning; recognizes and corrects potential risks, follows universal precautions, emergency procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and team members safety; recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations: communicates emergency data immediately to appropriate individuals.
- Confers with physicians and other health care team members to obtain and send additional patient information, and medical records, as requested; utilizes Clinical View to obtain lab test results, reviews for abnormal values needing immediate attention; assists with telephoning prescription and/or refills to pharmacy as directed by provider.
- Demonstrates the initiative to meet the needs of the department by assisting co-workers when workload permits; inventories and orders clinical supplies; participate in the departmental work improvement team projects.
- Completes work and documentation with accuracy within the established time frame; demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures applicable to own job position; adheres to KDMC and departmental policies and procedures; incorporates the information from formal and informal customer satisfaction surveys into daily practice.
- Demonstrates awareness of the budget and attempts to maintain within the limits, saving measures; provides information and assistance to co-workers and other customers; responds cooperatively to supervisory directions.
- Supervises/directs employees' and activities of the family care center/occupational medicine/specialty clinic he/she supervises; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws; reviews and enters payroll data for his/her center; develops work scheduling for his/her center; conducts monthly meetings with team members to communicate information about department, KDMC, QI, customer satisfaction etc; completes annual validations and competencies on clinical and non clinical staff. Obtains and submits requested information as requested; supports and enforces compliance with regulatory standards to include but not limited JCAHO, State, Medicare, Medicaid, OSHA, insurance companies etc.
- EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirement:
- Graduate from an accredited school of licensed practical nursing.
- Maintains active LPN licensure in the state of Kentucky and other states as necessary.
- Two years prior experience in nursing.
