The Port of New Orleans (PORTNOLA) is a diverse deep-water port uniquely located on the Mississippi River near the Gulf of Mexico. PORTNOLA is seeking aPILEDRIVERwho can complete daily tasks on a marine crane barge. The primary role of a PILEDRIVER is to safely and efficiently perform various physical duties as a ground man on installation of all piles, including placing, aligning and leveling piles on marine construction projects.
PILEDRIVERS are responsible for tender maintenance and repair and will use pneumatic air tools daily. The position currently consists of working a forty (40) hour work week (Monday Thursday) with overtime as necessary. Work is both land and water based in nature. PILEDRIVERS are responsible for wharf maintenance and repair. The typical task of a PILEDRIVER consists of the following:
+ Use pneumatic air tools and gas/electric power tools daily.
+ Use gas power chainsaws
+ Use basic carpentry tools (i.e., tape measure, framing square, and hammers/mauls.
+ Use basic mechanical tool (i.e., impacts, wrenches, and ratchets, etc.)
+ Assist Crane operator in line up, breaking out, and replacing fender piles.
+ Works with team to replace mooring bits by assisting Crane Operator in removing bots, basis and bits.
+ Repair of mooring bit basis by performing light duty concrete work.
+ Fabricate threaded bots using a pile threaded machine to secure fender piles.
A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE IS REQUIRED
Starting salary depends upon qualifications:
$19.67/hr. to $27.54/hr.
THIS VACANCY QUALIFIES FOR 1.50/hr. PREMIUM PAY
Premium pay is additional pay provided to employees for each hour actually worked.

Pile Driver (Fendering Department)
This position is in the Fendering department of the Port of New Orleans Maintenance Division and reports directly to the Piledriver Foreman.
This position serves as a Port of New Orleans, Piledriver in facilitating piledriving operations and maintenance as part of the Fendering department.
This position participates in the required PORT training program and obtains additional training in order to facilitate the efficient performance duties and/or required tasks. This is a safety sensitive position that requires random drug screening throughout the year.
The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver’s License, Class E and be knowledgeable and capable of the safe operation of various types of equipment required to fulfill the needs of the position and the PORT. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of the use of a VHF radio, which requires proper radio etiquette. The incumbent shall utilize a telephone, cell phone, two-way communication device, computer and e-mail to facilitate communications if required. The incumbent must be able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
75% PILEDRIVING: Includes, but not limited to works on floating piledriver barge, replacing and repairing pilings, piling clusters and wharf structures. Uses gas powered chainsaws, hand saws, power drills, air impacts, jack hammers, cutting torches, hammers and various sized mauls to repair and replace wharf logs, mooring bits and mooring bit bases.
15% REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE: Includes, but not limited to makes minor repairs and performs daily maintenance on equipment to keep equipment in good working order. Works on land making various repairs to wharves as needed.
5% RIGGING AND LOADING: Includes, but not limited to load and unload timber pilings onto floating barges and make various repairs as needed.
5% OTHER DUTIES, INCLUDING EMERGENCY SUPPORT: The incumbent is required to perform a variety of tasks and assignments, as directed by the Supervisor, necessary to fulfill the mission of the Fendering Department and/or Port Maintenance Division.
