Job Description
The Pipe Welder is responsible for various types of weld preparation and finishing operations in order to manufacture a product per the customer drawings, specifications, or other form of instruction. In addition, he/she will be involved with machnical maintenance such as pulling valves and pumps. Candidates must have the ability to read P&IDs and Isometric drawings. Experience with rigging and field measurements a must.
Responsibilities
- Creates and maintains a safe environment at all times
- Inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness
- Ensures an ethical and fair testing environment during periods of testing
- Ensures all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after all welding processes
- Perform other duties as assigned by the area supervisor
Qualifications
- Must have 2-5 years of experience in various forms of pipe welding
- Must have work experience and technical knowedge and skills in gas, arc, shielded, and non-shielded metal arc welding
- Must be able to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and welding symbols
- Must have excellent attention to detail, a focus on accuracy, and a sense of urgency
- Must have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the related field (increased knowledge required with higher levels of this position)
- Must demonstrate a high level of customer service and strong communication (both listening and speaking) and interpersonal skills
- Must rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
- Must be able to complete and pass a preplacement welding test
- Completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty preferred
