Planner: Under general direction, performs professional planning work with both administrative and technical responsibilities in comprehensive short and long range planning. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.
Senior Planner: Under general direction, is responsible for performing complex planning and supervisory work, responsible for the supervision of a the City's Planning & Development Services Department. Responsibilities include the development of recommendations on planning and zoning issues, staffing of boards and committees and the review of work performed by subordinate planners. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise direct supervision over assigned staff.
This advertisement will be used to fill the position at one of the following Planner levels:
- Planner ($50,221.86 - $75,332.92 Annually)
- Senior Planner ($58,138.08 - $87,207.12 Annually)
Work Location
100 W. Houston St. San Antonio, TX
Work Hours
7:45 am to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; includes remote work from home and may include evening and weekend hours to attend community meetings and public hearings
Essential Job Functions
Planner
- Performs long and short range comprehensive studies, zoning and land use, population studies and socio- economic trends.
- Researches, collects, analyzes, and interprets data and summarizes data into report form.
- Responds to department requests for information, as well as from the general public.
- Reviews, monitors, and processes site plans, plat or zoning applications in accordance with applicable codes and department policies.
- Reviews and interprets requirements consistent with Planning Commission and Zoning Commission or other boards' direction and in conformity with applicable codes.
- Prepares maps, graphs, charts, and illustrations.
- Makes presentations to committees, boards, associations, and commissions.
- Coordinates community and neighborhood meetings.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Senior Planner
- Conducts special studies on projects such as land use and zoning plans.
- Conducts updates to the City's Comprehensive Plan and various components of the plan.
- Prepares written reports and makes presentations at public and community meetings and boards and commissions.
- Provides technical support to boards, commissions and committees.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff members.
- Oversees the preparation and reproduction of publications issued by the Department.
- Makes recommendations to other City Departments.
- Responds to requests for information from management, officials and the public.
- Reviews, coordinates and evaluates plat and development plan applications.
- Plans, organizes and conducts neighborhood meetings with residents of the rezone areas.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Planner
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Senior Planner
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years increasingly responsible urban planning experience to include one (1) year of supervisory or lead work experience.
