About the Job
What we are looking for:
The Plant Operator will operate and maintain mechanical gas recovery/process equipment. You will work on landfill gas migration control/recovery systems and provide long-term post closure care at closed landfill sites. You will report onsite in Rochester.
How you can make an impact:- Responsible for proper operation, maintenance, and repair of gas recovery/process equipment including engines, compressors, filters, pumps, blowers, strippers, generators, flares, sumps, automatic/manual control valves, etc.
- Operate and maintain other environmental pollution control systems including VES (Vapor Extraction Systems) and GWP&T (Ground Water Pump and Treat).
- Aim to improve the Office’s and ones’ own, health and safety performance.
- Installs, repairs, and maintain mechanical regulating and controlling devices, such as electric motors, power generating engines, gas regulators, thermostats, safety and flow valves, and other mechanical governors. Controls, operates, and maintains machinery to produce electric power.
- Use tools, ladders, portable saws, and generators to cut pipe to raise or repair gas well piping.
- Use grinders and extrusion welding equipment to repair or expand gas system or leachate piping.
- Repair leachate or condensate pumps. Lift and lower repaired pumps into vaults or sumps.
- 1 or more years in O&M of mechanical systems or pipeline construction required.
- 2 or more years mechanical plant operation and maintenance required.
- Training in polyethylene pipe fusion for construction or, combustible gas sensor and/or ground flare O&M preferred.
- Experience or demonstrated high degree of aptitude in mechanical work; analytical problem solving and data analysis; interpretation of plans, specifications, schematics, manufacturer manuals, system operation and maintenance manuals; interpretation of applicable codes and regulations.
- 40 hour Health and Safety, 8 hour Management and Supervisor, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, Confined Space Entry, and Trench Excavation Safety training.
- Meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from manlifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions.
