A plumber is responsible for assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems, adhering to specifications and plumbing codes.
Requirements:
- Possesses commercial construction experience.
- Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Capable of making decisions based on measurable criteria and visualizing objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
- Proficiency in working skillfully with hands.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50-75+ pounds.
- Good eyesight, with or without correction.
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds.
- Able to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret, understand, and visually follow blueprints and specifications to determine the sequence and method of pipe and fixture installations.
- Knowledgeable about the various types of pipes used in different systems, such as refrigerant piping, chilled water and hot water piping, vent piping, condensate piping, sanitary piping, storm drain piping, and waste line piping.
- Familiarity with the specific applications of different types of piping: copper, iron, steel, brass, plastic, Victaulic.
- Basic understanding of excavation principles.
- Proficiency in using grading tools.
- Ability to read cut sheets for the correct installation of fixtures.
- Calculate water flow (CV & GPM) and pressure differentials.
- Inspect structures to identify obstructions to be avoided to prevent the weakening of the structure resulting from pipe installation.
- Install support frameworks for piping (e.g., hangers).
- Locate and mark the position of pipes, pipe connections, and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using a ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.
- Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
- Experienced in selecting the appropriate types of pipe connections.
