Position Summary
The Plumbing/Fire Protection Designer/Engineer designs the plumbing (domestic hot and cold water, sanitary waste and vent, roof drainage, natural gas, specialty gases and treated water for labs and healthcare, etc.) and fire protection (wet and/or dry pipe sprinklers, standpipe, dry chemical extinguishing and other specialty fire protection, etc.) systems to meet applicable code requirements and client project needs.
Responsibilities:
- Plumbing and Fire Protection design and construction phase activities for projects in multiple market sectors, including Education, Real Estate, Pharma/Biotech/Flavors & Fragrances, Healthcare, Public Works and Energy & Utility sectors.
- Includes performing site investigations, analysis of existing systems and their conditions, code reviews, system and equipment sizing/load calculations, equipment selection and specification, equipment vendor coordination, and system layout and design.
- Development of conceptual design alternatives.
- Development of construction documents including drawings and specifications.
- Development and presentation of reports.
- Effective coordination with other design disciplines
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years or more U.S. experience in Plumbing and Fire Protection design.
- BS or BE in Engineering is required.
- Professional Engineering license or EIT registration a plus.
- Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) or Certified in Plumbing Engineering (CIPE) a plus.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or Certified Fire Protection Engineer (CFPE) a plus.
- Experience with commercial, multi-family residential, K-12 school, college & university, healthcare, and biotech/pharma projects is desired.
- Experience with typical plumbing systems is required, including sanitary waste and vent, domestic hot and cold water, storm water, and fuel gas systems.
- Experience or familiarity with specialty plumbing systems is highly desired, including laboratory, process and medical air, gas, vacuum, water and waste systems, and commercial kitchen design.
- Experience or familiarity with fire protection systems is required, including wet, dry, deluge, pre-action sprinkler systems, chemical extinguishing systems, and standpipe systems.
- Experience or familiarity with sustainable Plumbing design is desired (e.g., LEED, EPA WaterSense, Energy Star, etc.).
- Good computer, communication and presentation skills are required.
- Familiarity and experience with AutoCAD or Revit is required.
- Familiarity and experience with both AutoCAD and Revit is a plus.
- Knowledge of fire sprinkler hydraulic calculation software is a plus (e.g., Hass, Autosprink, Hydracalc, etc.).
- Experience with HVAC is also a plus.
